Welcome to Galaxy Glasses!

Galaxy Glasses is a newsletter about finding light in the cosmic night. A stumbling through space seeking tidbits that just might help us be a little more brave, a little more dignified, a little more good.

To learn more I’d recommend checking out the author’s note. As I mention there, this Substack is a work in progress: I post in part to get feedback from you, a reader! So please feel free to comment and contribute to discussions. I value your thoughts and feedback. Thanks for being here!

Posting Schedule

I typically post new content every other week, usually on Fridays. Here’s my current posting schedule:

  • Friday, September 6

  • Friday, September 20

  • Friday, October 4

  • Friday, October 18

  • Friday, November 1

  • Friday, November 15

  • Friday, November 29

Sometimes posts will be polished, other times we’ll have a lot of work to do. But having a deadline will give us material to work with.

In addition to the biweekly regular post, I also post a “3-word mercy” every Monday (read about it here!), and “Back of the Brain” posts for paid subscribers approximately every other “off” Friday.

Note that if weekly Monday Mercies are too much, you can unsubscribe from just the Monday Mercies section of the Substack and stay subscribed to Galaxy Glasses by going to your setting page (here are some instructions).

Comments on Subscribing

Why subscribe? When I joined Substack it gave me some boilerplate text about how you’ll get full access to email updates and the full website, and how it’s the best way to stay up to date and get fresh content. That’s all true, I suppose, but I guess the main reason I’d subscribe is that it supports the mission. It supports the quest, and encourages me to keep going, even in the darker shadows of the nights.

Most material is available for free to everyone. But if you like it, and want to support the work that’s happening here in a more substantive way, it’s possible to be a paid subscriber at the Substack recommended monthly level. In addition to my eternal gratitude, being a paid subscriber gives you access to extra content — previews of things I’m thinking about, earlier drafts of now revised material, non astronomy stuff, occasional goofy thoughts, a random astronomy fact: something now and then to brighten your day. I donate 50% of everything I receive to non-profits working to make the world a more good, dignified, and braver place: a slightly more joy filled spec of cosmic dust.

Join the crew

Be part of a community of people who share your interests. I don’t know exactly what this looks like yet, but it will be a fun ride! Share a good story, I’ll feature it. Any comments or advice, I’ll take it. A recurring theme is it’s a big world out there, so whatever we can do to take it on together sounds good to me!
